Joan is a piano teacher who is passionate about bringing the joy of music learning to all students.

Joan had completed ABRSM Grade 8 in Piano and Grade 5 in Theory in 2007. In 2022, she completed 2nd year of a Bachelor of Music degree, scoring High Distinction in all subjects, notably in Piano Performance. During her tertiary education, she was privileged to study piano under renowned concert pianist, Andreas Boyde. 

Joan’s style of teaching is to bring fun and humour into lessons, aiming to nurture a positive learning environment for all students. She places a great emphasis on teaching students to be independent and confident learners, in particular empowering students to adopt essential learning skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, goal setting and practice planning. This enables students to achieve their fullest potential not just at the piano, but in all aspects of learning. 

With 10 years’ experience teaching students of all ages and levels, Joan is able to help students navigate their personal goals whether that be achieving their best exam results, learning pop songs or even reading chord charts. Joan is all about meeting students where they are!

Prior to becoming a piano teacher, Joan was a practising physiotherapist. Using her technical knowledge as a practitioner, Joan also has a strong focus on posture and technique to ensure students develop good playing habits without injury.
